Star joined our rescue in March after she was terribly mislabeled on the euthanasia list at BARC (Houston's municipal shelter). Her face was painted with fresh scars, all but one canine had broken, and she was labeled as "likely pregnant." Star has made a beautiful transformation and has one of the gentlest spirits we have encountered. Her positivity simply radiates from her being and she can make anyone smile. Star weighs about 60 lbs, is a low-rider bully mix, and is approximately 4.5 years old. She is amazing with toddlers, exhibiting a motherly love and patience that inspires awe. She loves meeting new people and is good with other dogs. Star would not mind in the least being the only dog in a home (all the more loving for her to receive!). She rides well in a car and is nondestructive in the home. We have a special love for Starfish, as we affectionately call her. Her personality and confidence with other dogs has grown immensely as she's been in our care.
Final notes: Star succumbed to congestive heart failure in December 2023. Her history before coming to our rescue was unknown, but clearly filled with trauma and neglect. Her heart had been filled with heartworms for an unknown period of time, and the damage that they caused ultimately led to her early parting. We gave her lots of love as she crossed the rainbow bridge.
